Contested vs. Uncontested Divorce

A Las Vegas divorce lawyer should tell you about the two types of divorce and then guide you through one of the most difficult times in your life.  The way your divorce is handled by a Las Vegas divorce attorney will greatly impact your life for the near and distant future, so you need to hire the right attorney for your case.  Because child custodychild support, alimony, and property division are intergral to a final decree of divorce, the right lawyer should be experienced in each.

You should also ask your divorce lawyer about sealing your family law record.

Your divorce lawyer should also be able to assist you with post divorce matters for issues that come up after your divorce that may require more court action.

Your Las Vegas divorce attorney should have the experience and disposition to handle your case in the best possible way for your situation, for instance contested or uncontested.

Because your divorce is so important, The Wright Law Offices encourages all prospective clients to meet and discuss the pending dissolution of your marriage with multiple qualified divorce lawyers.  The lawyer-client relationship requires trust and respect so it is important to partner wisely for your journey through a Las Vegas divorce.

Uncontested Divorce

If you have a no contest divorce, meaning you and your spouse are in agreement on all the terms and just want to get it over with, The Wright Law Offices will represent you for a flat fee which includes reasonable costs (including the filing fee, postage, and copies). Note, we would only represent one of you.

For an additional smaller sum, an attorney at another firm will likely review the paperwork for the other spouse to ensure their rights and interests are protected.

Other names for uncontested divorce are amicable divorce and joint petition for divorce.  However, a contested divorce, see below, can also become uncontested at some point.

Contested Divorce

If you are going through a divorce and cannot agree on the terms of the divorce, you should hire an attorney to represent you for all or part of it as necessary.  You may look into our bundled and unbundled services for an idea of the legal costs associated with fighting over any or all of the following:

Remember, Nevada is a no fault divorce state, meaning that marital infidelity or cruelty will not better your position on the terms for divorce unless it relates to best interests of the children in a consideration for child custody.

If you have a divorce decree but you need to go back to court to modify a divorce decree or enforce it, we may help you with that too.  You may need to modify child custodymodify child support, or modify alimony.

Attorney Anthony Wright was instrumental in passing law so that parties to a divorce could go back to court even years later to ask a court to divide a community asset or debt.  Also, after a divorce, many times a Qualified Domestic Relations Order (QDRO) may have to be filed and Anthony can refer to experts in that field.
